What Do NSW & Queensland Licensing Authorities Look For in a Trade Licence Application?
Submitting a licence application isn't just about ticking boxes.
The regulator needs enough information to determine whether you meet the requirements for the licence you're applying for.
So what are they actually looking for?
NSW
For NSW applications, applicants need to demonstrate the relevant qualifications and experience for their category of work. Depending on the application, supporting information can include qualifications, employment and experience details, referee information, identity documents and insurance eligibility.
Queensland
Queensland's QBCC licensing system considers several eligibility areas, including:
Technical qualifications
Do you have the required technical skills for the licence class?
Experience
Can you demonstrate the required experience?
Managerial qualifications
Are these required for your particular licence?
Financial requirements
Can you satisfy the applicable minimum financial requirements?
Fit and proper
Do you meet the requirements to hold a licence?
Business structure
Is your business structure properly identified?
Insurance
Does your licence class require professional indemnity insurance?
What makes experience evidence strong?
One of the biggest mistakes applicants make is simply listing jobs they've had.
Instead, your evidence should demonstrate:
What you did
What work did you personally perform?
When you did it
What were the dates?
Where you did it
Which projects or businesses were involved?
Who supervised you?
Who can verify your experience?
How does it relate to the licence?
This is particularly important for Queensland applicants. QBCC provides detailed guidance about documenting relevant experience and may require appropriately qualified referees.
The Licensing PA approach
We don't simply ask:
"Have you worked in the industry?"
We ask:
"How can we demonstrate your experience against the requirements of the licence you're applying for?"
That's a much more useful question.
Not sure whether your experience and documents are enough?
We review your experience, qualifications and supporting evidence to help you understand what is required for your trade licence application.
