QBCC Demolition Licence: What You Need to Know
Believe it or not? There's no QBCC demolition licence. Queensland demolition licences come from WorkSafe. Here's who needs what.
The catch: it isn't a QBCC licence
The QBCC's own guidance lists demolition workers as people to refer to Workplace Health and Safety. Demolition licensing sits with WorkSafe Queensland.
When you need a demolition licence.
You need one to demolish or dismantle a structure containing pre-tensioned or post-tensioned components, work involving load-shifting equipment such as excavators or cranes, or work using explosives or induced collapse. There are exclusions, such as structures that are still essentially a domestic house.

Where the QBCC still comes in.
Demolition as part of a build, renovation or structural alteration can still be building work. A carpenter opening up a load-bearing wall, for example, needs to be licensed for the building work itself. Work that demolishes part of a load-bearing structure can also be classed as demolition work, so both regulators may care.
Bottom line:
if your work is demolition, apply to WorkSafe. If it's building work with some demolition involved, you likely need the QBCC licence for the building scope.
